Living and working in the Hudson Valley, I regularly find myself thinking about my next meal as I’m finishing up the one in front of me, and that’s especially true in summer, when our region blossoms and blooms with color and sweetness. Ripe, juicy fruits…fresh and crisp vegetables… even our delicious dairy all seem to taste brighter and better this time of year.

And this is why I’m thrilled about our summer issue’s feature articles. In one, we learn about a woman-led company that assists homeowners in cultivating aesthetically pleasing edible gardens around their property—not just in the back, where so many of us create our seasonal tomato and basil plantings. The other explores Willow Pond Sheep Farm, which humanely raises dairy ewes that produce creamy milk, yogurt, and ricotta, while other members of the flock bring forth tender lamb and great-tasting (not gamey) mutton.

As for the rest of the issue, it’s full of all the foodie news and info we continually strive to share with you, and we hope you’ll be inspired to check out a new restaurant, whiskey, farmers’ market, or recipe—I can’t wait to try making the sour cherry crostata detailed on the last page.

Cheers to cherries, sheep’s yogurt, farm spirits, and all the richness of summer in the Hudson Valley!
