”IN ADDITION TO PRODUCING SOME OF THE FINEST BEER IN THE WORLD, New York’s craft breweries are creating jobs, supporting our state’s farmers and hops growers as well as bringing in tourism dollars in local communities across New York,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo after signing legislation last summer designed to strengthen New York’s quickly multiplying craft breweries.
The Farm Brewery License, available to craft brewers, exempts farm-based breweries that produce small batches of beer from paying the hefty annual State Liquor Authority fee. It also allows selling farm-produced beer on the farm and opens the door to on-farm restaurants.
Justin Riccobono, farm director of Dutchess Hops in Lagrangeville, is one farmer looking forward to putting the new law to work: “We’re looking into a brewing/tasting room here at our farm to showcase our fresh hops. What better way to do that than having a tasting room on site?”
