Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, chow down on traditional Irish cuisine at restaurants across the Hudson Valley.

As the region gears up for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, parades, and events, now is the perfect time to dig into some authentic Irish fare. If you’re on the hunt for corned beef, bangers and mash, or shepherd’s pie, you’re in luck because the Hudson Valley is home to plenty of Irish locales serving up your favorite dishes. Stop by for an Irish breakfast or sit down for dinner with a Guinness to satisfy your appetite this March and all year long.

Copperfield’s Kildare Pub

Montgomery

In the Village of Montgomery, Copperfield’s Kildare Pub is a place where spirits are high and pub food comes alive. The eatery offers 37 craft beer draft lines, so there is always something new to enjoy alongside your meal. With a menu section dedicated to traditional Irish favorites, there’s no shortage of bangers and mash, fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and corned beef at this spot.

Erin O’Neill’s Pub & Grill

Poughkeepsie

St. Patrick’s Day is certainly an event at Erin O’Neill’s Pub and Grill, but the Poughkeepsie mainstay is decked in green year-round. House specials like cottage pie and fish and chips are classics, but the Gaelic Platter with chicken or steak, Irish whiskey sauce, mushrooms, grain mustard, whipped potatoes, and carrot-parsnip mash is a must-try.

Located on New Paltz’s historic Huguenot Street, Garvan’s Gastropub occupies a building that was constructed in 1759. The meals here are as authentic as the architecture, with options like corned beef Reubens, Guinness lamb stew, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, and even full Irish breakfasts. The restaurant also arranges Ireland tours abroad for the adventurous.

An Irish tea shop in Pearl River, The Gracie Rose offers specialty market goods and a dine-in menu that includes plenty of Gaelic grub. Sit down for a traditional breakfast complete with Irish bacon, black and white pudding, and beans or sausage and chips alongside a slice of Irish biscuit cake and a steaming cup of Irish tea.

McCarthy’s Grill House

Carmel

McCarthy’s is a gathering place for Putnam County locals who are looking to kick back with a cooler in the summer and sip on warming soups in the winter. With menus ranging from Taco Tuesday to Sunday Night Chicken, this Irish-themed restaurant has a section for traditional dishes as well. Enjoy shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and fish and chips at this Carmel pub.

Nellie’s Irish Country Café

East Durham

As East Durham is home to hundreds of Irish immigrants, the culture is strong in this section of Greene County. As such, Nellie’s is the perfect café to find corned beef Reubens, potato leek soup, fish and chips, and Irish soda bread – both by the slice and by the loaf.

Reilly’s Public House

Piermont

A more recent opening in the French-leaning town of Piermont, Reilly’s Public House is a friendly Irish addition to the Rockland County village. Established in 2022, Reilly’s offers elevated Irish-American cuisine such as bangers and mash, chicken pot pie, Irish breakfast, Irish lamb stew, and chicken curry, to name a few.

The Shamrock House

East Durham

Another East Durham favorite, The Shamrock House is an essential stop after the East Durham St. Patrick’s Day Parade on the March holiday. This month and throughout the year, the locale is big on festive eats like bangers and mash, Irish chicken curry, chicken pot pie, and Shamrock House’s famous shepherd’s pie.
