With the mandatory use of face masks, new social distancing practices, and other measures, many Hudson Valley farmers’ markets have taken on a whole new look and feel this summer in order to protect patrons and vendors from COVID-19. 

Some, like the Beacon and Goshen Farmers’ Markets, have set aside hours for seniors and immunocompromised shoppers. The Hudson Farmers’ Market has relocated, spreading its market across two locations to make social distancing easier. While others, including Hastings Farmers’ Market and Heart of the Hudson Valley Farmers’ Market in Milton, have introduced pre-ordering. 

As we find ourselves cooking at home more often and farms across the country face profit loss, the pandemic has also reinforced the importance of buying and eating as locally as possible. 

“We feel it’s more important than ever to support your regional food system and local businesses especially related to agriculture and healthy eating,” says Laura Wilson Crimmins, market manager of Kingston Farmers Market. “Strong local connections reinforce our sustainability as a community and the success and well-being of all.”
