Last December, The Rare Bit opened with a very singular culinary focus: England. In the Hudson Valley, it joined the ranks of a handful of places serving fish and chips, Scotch eggs, and rarebit under one roof. While the Dobbs Ferry eatery continues to serve select British-leaning staples, it recently broadened its menu to feature more varied gastropub fare as well.

“The purpose of the concept shift at The Rare Bit is to become a neighborhood restaurant that customers will want to keep coming back to while also staying true to our elevated dining roots,” says owner Scott Broccoli. “As a native of Dobbs Ferry with an affinity to this community, my goal for The Rare Bit is to offer our friends and neighbors a variety of delicious options at every price point.”

True to his word, the menu reflects the approachable, community aura that Broccoli and executive chef Evan Kalogiannis, formerly of Hudson Farmer & the Fish and Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish, hope to attract. To balance the handful of English dishes on the lineup, world flavors like Jamaican jerk pork chops with sweet potato mash, and falafel with lemon cabbage salad enter the mix. During the weekend, the eatery serves decadent specials like Bottoms Up Brunch and Prime Rib Carvings. Our pick? Bookmark Wellington Wednesdays, when The Rare Bit features new takes on the beloved British dish. — SS
