When it comes to fall cocktails, there are so many ways to go. Sure, you could stick with an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan, but why not switch things up with a local twist? Lean into the season with this Walden Apple Sour recipe from the Hudson Valley’s very own Angry Orchard. This cocktail uses the cidery’s classic beverage as a base, then mixes it with spicy rum and a splash of red wine for a drink that’s reminiscent of sangria but, dare we say it, even better.
Walden Apple Sour
1 lemon wedge
1 oz. spiced rum (Captain or Sailor Jerry works well)
½ oz. Ocean Spray cran-apple juice
6 oz. Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider
½ oz. Cabernet Sauvignon
Diced apple for garnish (optional)
- In a mixing glass, squeeze and drop the lemon wedge. Then, add the spiced rum and cran-apple juice. Cover with ice and shake. Add cider and strain into a chilled stemless wine glass, and float the wine on top. Garnish with diced apple if desired.
