Wine with Lamb

Lamb is arguably best grilled over a wood fire and served rare or not at all, with a glass of good red wine.  These three local wines are good bets:

Fjord Vineyards 2015 Cabernet Franc

(Double Gold and Best Cabernet Franc 2017 at the New York State Food and Wine Festival)

Winemaker notes on the 2014: “lilac, violet, blackberry preserve, baking spice, raspberry, cocoa, cassis, soft tannins, lively acidity”

Millbrook Vineyards 2015 Cabernet Franc Proprietor’s Special Reserve

Cabernet franc with a smidge of merlot, scent of Parma violets, taste of wild blackberries, black pepper, a bit of tartness, nice body, admirable restraint.

Whitecliff Vineyard 2016 Reserve Gamay Noir

The grape of Beaujolais shows the “happy effects of sun and soil right here” [in the Hudson Valley].  Light ruby-colored, aromatic, delicate, posies, plums, good acidity.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week is back this April 8-21!
